We only breed occasionally and are very careful to ensure that our breeding bitches and choice of sires have been health screened as per Kennel Club requirements and recommendations. Copies of Health Screening tests of the parents are available. As Smooth Collies are a numerically small breed it is not always possible to breed puppies with completely clear results in every test but we do our best to limit the risks.
Puppies are screened at 6-7 weeks for Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) by an approved ophthalmologist and DNA tested for Multi Drug Resistance( MDR1) before they go to their new homes. For more information on these issues go to the Smooth Collie Club of Great Britain website.
Temperament is equally important and plays a large part in our mating plans. Puppies are introduced to all the usual household sights and sounds and to children. When they are old enough and weather permitting they are encouraged to explore the garden and interact with the other adult dogs.
All puppies are microchipped before they leave us and are health checked by our vets to ensure that they are in good health when they go to their new homes. Your puppy will have been wormed regularly by the time it is eight weeks old. We are always happy for anyone interested in owning a smooth collie to come and meet our dogs and learn more about the breed, even when no litters are currently planned.
